Biddeford
Saco Courier - October 13th 2004 Something
special is happening in Saco. Five holistic practitioners have joined to form
the Saco Healing Arts Center, located on the third floor of the former Atkinson
Furniture building. “We provide care for people who wish to enhance their
current good health, relieve pain and stress, or to recover from illness or
injury. We are committed to providing a full spectrum of modalities, recognizing
mind-body-spirit integration and the body’s inherent ability to heal
itself.” The
group of Beth Koehler, LMT; Sue Wallingford, LMT, OTR/L; John Lehmus D.C.Ed;
Maura Edgecomb, LMT; and Buffy Rousselle, LMT combine to compliment and enhance
each other’s talents to be able to provide the best care possible for clients. Beth
is a licensed massage therapist, an advanced polarity practitioner and a Level 3
RYSETM practitioner. She works with a person’s energy system as
well as incorporating deep tissue techniques. She performs intuitive bodywork;
this involves Beth’s listening to the client’s body and soul and responds to
its needs. Sue
is a practitioner of massage and Reiki. She combines a variety of massage
methods including relaxing Swedish massage, CORE myofascial therapy and
orthopedic massage. The CORE method of myofascial therapy is a very deep, but
not painful method that promotes better posture and balance. Orthopedic massage
involves therapeutic assessment and soft tissue manipulation to reduce or
eliminate pain or dysfunction. Also, Sue is a licensed occupational therapist
with over ten years experience. John
is a certified holistic health counselor and holds a doctorate in ASAT C.O.R.E.TM
education. He has extensive experience as a spiritual teacher in many modalities
including meditation, Toltec Wisdom, and energy balancing. He works with clients
that are bothered by “mind chatter”, anxiety, frequent illness, family
issues, etc. John also offers essential oils, which aid in healing by removing
toxins and improving your DNA repair capacity. Maura
is a licensed massage therapist who specializes in therapeutic deep tissue
techniques. A graduate of Spa Tech Institute, she also holds a B.A. in biology
from the University of Southern Maine. She enjoys helping all people to enjoy a
healthy, pain-free life and especially enjoys working with pregnant women and
the challenges they present. Buffy
is a Licensed Massage Therapist and a graduate of the Therapeutic Massage
program at Spa Tech Institute. She enjoys helping people recover from
injuries from sports and soreness from day to day activities. Along with
deep tissue massage, Buffy also specializes in myofascial therapy and Swedish
massage for those who are looking for relaxation. “We
all do things a bit differently,”
Sue says, “and we draw on each other’s strengths. This is a very supportive
atmosphere.” “People
have tried other methods of healing and realize they don’t necessarily work in
the long-term, often times affecting something else in the body,” John says.
“We see each client as a whole person and guide them to wellness holistically
in mind, body and spirit.” The
practitioners at the Saco Healing Arts Center will also provide workshops on a
variety of topics. Beth will soon be teaching RYSETM classes. These
are a series of four experiential days in which a student learns about their own
energy system, how to tell if it’s blocked and learns tools to maintain it’s
balance and clarity. To
